Northumbria Police put fitness first

The physical demands of being a police officer are second to none. So when officers at Northumbria Police Sports and Social Club requested funding for a new gym, the Trust were happy to help.

Previously they’d been no gym facilities at Middle Engine Lane Police Station, meaning the 200 Club members weren’t able to keep in shape on the site. A generous grant of £3,000 was awarded in June 2017 to help cover the costs of installing a new fitness centre, and work was completed last month.

The new gym is now open 24-hours a day and available to all members. Speaking of the opening, Stephen Gill, who applied for the grant, said it has had a positive impact on the lives of the those that use it.

“Previously there were no gym facilities at this location. Since opening it has proved very popular. Feedback has been very positive and [the gym] has  improved the wellbeing of members,” he said.
