Our Biggest Volunteer Conference yet
Supporters from across the country have attended our largest, most successful volunteer conference so far.
The two-day event between 7th– 8th January, at the Coombe Abbey Hotel in Coventry, featured a variety of guest-speakers as well as a black-tie dinner and award ceremony recognising those who had gone the extra mile in promoting the Trust.
Volunteer Manager Claire Craigie proudly outlined the large increase in volunteers throughout 2018 (from 26 to 83), as well as our ambitions to grow the community further and recruit at least one Support Volunteer in every region across England, Wales and Scotland.
The guest speakers included representatives from Police Mutual, Jan Berry from Care of Police Survivors (COPS) as well as volunteer leads from Scotland, Wales and the Metropolitan Police. The event was broken up by group-activities in which volunteers were asked to consider and discuss key issues that impacted their role.
The evening was one of acknowledging achievement as several nominated volunteers collected awards for their outstanding and important work.
Lee Taylor, who won Volunteer of the Year, for his success in securing an exceptional number of registrations across Lancashire commented afterwards:
“I am truly honoured to receive the PDT “Volunteer of the Year” award.
“When my name was announced as the winner, I felt overwhelmed and very surprised. However, as we all know, volunteering for the PDT is always a team effort and I feel that this award represents more than the work I have just done”.
The conference was a huge success and feedback from all those who attended has been very positive and supportive.
Claire Craigie later said “It was great to see so many of our volunteers getting together to share ideas, and see those who have gone above and beyond recognised for all their hard work. I believe everyone who attended thoroughly enjoyed themselves and there is much to look forward to with our busy year ahead”.
We would like to say a big thank you to those who attended over the two days.
